Johnny Cash ~ One ( U2). To me the U2 version doesn't exist, this blows it out of the water, atmosphere and solar system.

Johnny Cash ~ Hurt (Nine Inch Nails[!]). Incredible.

Lemonheads ~ Ballad Of El Goodo (Big Star).

John Mayer ~ Kid A (Radiohead). Interesting take on an odd song.

Counting Crows ~ No Scrubs (TLC). Odd decision.

And in contention for the worst cover ever:

The Darkness ~ Street Spirit [Fade Out] (Radiohead). Twunts...

Another Bob Dylan original to add to the growing list in this thread, and it's again by the Chili Peppers...

How did I forget about Subterranean Homesick Blues?!?

Absolutely brilliant. Look at Dylan's original, see what the Anthony Kiedis and co. have done to their own version and you know just what a great job they really have done.

Just the way a cover should be done - making it as of 'your own' as you should for the chance to cover such a piece of musical art.

HA-HA-HA! That one really made me laugh!

I know you've said to stear-clear of it, but, sorry, I'm gonna have to try and find it simply to LAUGH again! :D

Music Today has sunk to an even-lower new low... And it's sinking fast! :P

Three Jimi Hendrix songs that've been covered by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, all of which sound brilliant live:

Fire
Crosstown Traffic
Castles Made of Sand

Also, there's Hey Joe[/V], which I think is a cover of a cover (because Bob Dylan did it first).

Another cover the Chili Peppers have done the I really like is of [I]Search and Destroy
, originaly by The Stooges. Bloody brilliant live!

Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower (Bob Dylan)
Jamie Cullum - Wind Cries Mary (Jimi Hendrix)

Rancid deserve to be shot for their cover of Bob Marley's No Woman No Cry, pure sh*te.

It was Daphne and Celeste. Probably the worst Alice Cooper cover ever; turning 70s hard rock into pop music doesn't work.
