I have a site written with Frontpage templates (not sure what version) and have editted a few bits in dreamweaver mx but when I go back into frontpage it trashes the whole site by trying to put back things I deleted in dreamweaver. Is there a way to stop frontpage doing this either by removing certain coding or otherwise. Also how does frontpage know the html files were created in frontpage?

The only way to stop it is by not using FrontPage.
It knows which files it created by putting a tag in the file's .

Unfortunately it is a necessity. I have to give the files back to a friend who only has frontpage. If I remove the meta tags will frontpage leave the files alone?

I have no idea - try it and see. But, make backups first :^)
