Well that is the premise of this book. It is set in the future, though not very far into it. At some point the government does away with taxes and then the economy becomes fully capitalist. Australia becomes part of the States and some other countries and stuff.
So it all starts of with a guy called Hack Nike getting a new job. Of course employees take the name of their company, hence his name. He accidentally gets caught up in a marketing campaign, and people start to die. Then you get some stuff about contract killings, which the police will do for a small fee, some stuff about the NRA and the President, who doesn't really do much anymore.
Of course the main character is Jennifer Government, who works for the government.
I'm crap at describing things, but seriously, this book is great. It's funny, it's got a fast paced style and an interesting setting.
It's worth it if only for the bit where some guy can't get the safety off a gun. I found that strangely funny.
The writer incidentally is Max Barry, the guy behind www.nationstates.net. In fact you can go there and read the first chapter if you want.
Best book I've read this year.
