If you want to watch something truly creepy, get hold of Shin'ya Tsukamoto’s movie “Tetsuo – the iron man”

The plot is simple. A metal fetishist, after ripping open his thigh and inserting a piece of metal (firstly dragged through his teeth) into the wound. He freaks out, and runs into the path of a typical salariman and gets run over.
While the salariman and his wife / girlfriend have sex, he’s left for dead in a ditch.
In the following days, the salariman starts to notice his body is changing as he fuses with metal objects around him. The metal fetishist is not in fact dead, and wants revenge.

That’s about it. Simple really, but it’s the atmosphere that the movie put out that makes it a really uncomfortable experience. Its filmed on grainy 16mm handheld black and white, no steadycam shots, and a constantly moving camera that gives it a voyeuristic feel. Its dialoge light, but if you can stand the salariman being chased through a train station by a secretary who’s arm is a mass of fused flesh and metal, you’re doing well.
It’s been compared to the work of both Cronenburg and Lynch, and although the atmosphere is similar, at its heart the movie is simply live action anime. At 67 minutes, it doesn’t outstay its welcome either. Compared to Japanese movies like “Ringu”, where nothing much happens, Tetsuo moves at a breakneck pace.

Well worth the fiver I paid on ebay for it, and if you want to watch something quite uniquely disturbing, fully recommended. I watched this the first time around over ten years back. It still manages to give me The Fear.

*shrugs* I found it disturbing. Not shocking, disturbing. In the same way that Cronenburgs "Dead Ringers" (not the silly impression show)makes me feel dirty and wrong, Crash does the same. I suppose its the window into some seriously f***** up peoples lives (yes, I know its fiction...) that does it for me.

Ahhhh, The Thing. I love it, and watch it quite frequently. KIt's still a marvelous movie, with very wrong with it. :)

I highly recommend a Japanease film called 'Naked Blood' if you want something disturbing. I've watched a lot of disturbing films in my time, but this crosses the line and then urinates all over it, real sick stuff.

I suppose it is supposed to shock, but the 'light hearted' conversations I have with mates at the weekend are more disturbing.

will look out for that tetsuo though.

that reminds me, watched the thing for the first time in ages last week. it's still got it - great film. the first time I watched that, let me just say I was feeling rather festive, and it left a lasting impression on my brain.

1am?!?!?!? Damn, I thought it was no later than 12. Apologies, but I was watching it while mortal in a dark room, and was feeling a little fragile. Hmmm, after "Crash" last week, and "Testuo" this week, I'm going to have to find something disturbing to watch this weekend. :)

I saw this many years ago as well, and it managed to scare the living bejesus out of me, and I've not seen it since.

It hasn't been on TV since then I don't think either, so I might just have to buy it in order to see it again.

Scary film, especially when you're a small innocent child like I was.
