I think the first one that comes to mind for me is the violin instrumental in Stand By Me, a modern example would be that monotonous base in Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand.
Your examples please.
Zero 7 - Destiny
At the very beginning of the chillout version and the short guitar strum starts the song. It's perfect. Still good in the normal version but the chillout one just adds a little more. Kinda makes my knees go weak for some reason..
Um..
There's a few.
First time I heard Rob Dougan's Furious Angels did exactly that. Doesn't quite do it anymore though after excessive listening. The moment when the lady starts screaming..
Only the video for some reason, but U2's Beautiful Day when the plane flies over them.
Massive Attack - Angel
When that 'big' bit starts. Lovely. Went absolutely perfect with a scene in Snatch.
The Source feat. Candi Staton - You've Got The Love
All of it! Just from when the beat starts, mostly. It's mainly the piano though, it fits perfectly with everything.
Also, after the lyrics and when everything goes quiet, 'sooner or later in life, the things you love you lose. just like before i know i call(?) you'. Then everything starts. Works wonders.
