I have to disagree, I think the consoles will continue to sell well for at least 3 months, then stocks will get low.
Then we may start to see a PS2esque feverish buying wave for another month as the last new consoles on the market are snapped up.
With games still in production, and not due for release over here in the UK until 2002, the DC still has a life. There are games I want to get that won't be out until at least November this year, and the average lifespan of a game in my collection is around 6 months, therefore that should get me through to May 2002, which is 13 months down the line. Then of course there is still the possibility that developers will continue to develop for it, old games will get re-released in a 'white-label' type format, and with the advent of free of charge online gaming via the DC, its true potential still has to be realised.
So I do believe that my 12-18 month predicted life span is a valid one. When I do get f.o.c. online gaming for my DC, PSO and Shenmue are really going to get a good going over. Then there's Quake 3, Half Life, Daytona USA 2001 online....
They wont be able to play classics like Mario Kart 64 and Goldeneye!
Or Zelda's 5 and 7!
It's still the best multiplayer console around though!
Having said that, there are still those that play on a ZX Spectrum....
