Anyone heard of Stone Temple Pilots?

I've recently heard of them but not heard anything by them and before I go crazy on eBay and buy an item I'd like some recomendations. Apparently they're similar to Finger Eleven or Our Lady Peace (two bands I rather like).

Anyway, opinions if you so please.

I've heard of the band, but only coz their singer is now in Velvet Revolver with half of Guns N Roses. Good band, poor name.

Well stone the crows. I thought at least two of them would be dead by now.

Dan was telling me about Layne Staley this last weekend. Didn't come as a shock. Well, apart from in the sense you mention. ;)

Scott Weiland is in a band with Slash, Matt Sorum, Duff McKagan, and...uhh...someone else. I believe the rest of STP are alive and shooting/snorting/smoking.

On a related topic, was there anyone on the face of planet earth who was surprised that Layne Staley died of a smack overdose? Frankly, I'm astonished he lasted so long. The only thing that surprises me more is that Mark Lanegan is still alive. I imagine that surprises him too, but thank god he is; the new EP is superb!

Serously, I bought "Core" years ago, but lost it in a house move. "Purple" is still one of my favorite albums.

Funny. I hadn't listened to it for years, but put it on at a BBQ last Saturday. Low and behold, when I check the forums this week, someone is posting about them.

[edit] do you know how many of the band are still alive? A few of them had horrendous heroin problems.

will be a couple of days before I can get them mate. I'm not on my puter (the router broke) and there's no zip prog on the comp im on.

If you dont mind leaving them there until tues/wed it would be cool :-)
