When it comes to importing stuff from America, how would I go about doing that?

I want to import some Anime DVDs which I would then play on my PS2 using a DVD region X.

Is the price of importing restrictive? What about import Tax? Is it legal?

It is legal, otherwise they wouldn't have a region X for PS2, would they!

It's something I've been interested in before, and did a tiny bit of research a while back after been slapped with a customs bill after ordering some T-shirts online.

Not really sure about the legality of importing, but i've hardly ever had any trouble buying US discs, and have hardly ever been stung with customs bill when my stuff arrives (only a couple of times in quite a few years, but one of those was for the bulky T-shirt parcel).
I think you have more trouble if you buy in bulk, as a package worth more than £18 is liable for import tax, so buying single dics is ok, though I guess bigger boxsets could be caught.

If you use some companies, like dvdpacific.com, they may be cheap, but customs people have apparently become well aware of them wrongly stating the value of the packages they send to avoid their customers having to pay tax. They have since been made to correctly label the value of each package, meaning you may be more likely to pay tax now if you shop there.
But some companies do still state the wrong contents worth on the package (I got 2 dvds in the post yesterday in the same jiffy bag and the value was over £18, but it still said it was under that amount on the label).
I think Movietyme say that if you get caught with an import bill, you can contact them and arrange for them to possibly refund the charge of the bill.

Some companies, like Yesasia.com, offer a VAT free shipping service if you spend over a certain amount, because they re-ship from within this country, which is pretty good.

There's plenty of info here:
