I burn quite a lot of audio CDs, mostly for other people, but I've now got a few things I'd like to stick on CD for myself. Unbranded junk media is fine to palm off on my freeloading mates but I want something that will last and generally be quite good - so what brand do people use? I've been reasoning along expensive=better lines but then I realised that this is the kind of thing that audiophiles are likely to have very strong opinions about.

At the moment I'm thinking of Taiyo Yuden discs because they have the coolest name.

Perhaps Lower Audio Y'know, quality, disks would be Memorex - you can get 100 cd-rs in a spindle pack for £18. But you have to guess where :^)

The same place also do 50 pack Verbatim at 50 for £12.

I don't know if you know of anywhere cheaper, but they're the lowest prices I've seen.

In reality, only like 5 places make blank CDs and DVDs. Cheapo no names could well be the same discs as Sony sell. There is no easy way to tell. Their used to be a program that you could get that would tell you what ink a disc was and who the real manufacturer was. The idea being that you could find good discs and stick with them.

Only problem was that I never ever got it to work. So I can't really recommend it.

Um, I have a few TDKs that have lasted well. Same goes for Pioneers.

Best discs I've used have been Intenso ones. Just white on top, rated at 48X, but burn fine at 52X.

Oh and audiophiles would tell you to do a master burn, at 1X speed, for best sound.
