Are the Akasa XP CPU coolers worth their salt?
Just asking as I'm currently wondering whether to go XP2800+ Retail or OEM and buy a fan and heatsink combo from Akasa, as the price is pretty damn close.
I'm buying a 2800 by the way as I can't afford the extra £25 for the XP3000+, as I need to save for the RAM and HD.

Getting the retail cpu comes with the advantage of having a warranty and knowing you'll get a fan that definately works with the processor....the disadvantage is that the fans can be quite loud and don't cool the cpu drastically (ie not much room for over-clocking)
If you purchased an OEM cpu it will be slightly cheaper with NO warranty However you will be able to buy a heatsink and fan that can meet your requirements better (ie quieter or better at cooling)
In the end it is up to you and it depends on what you are looking for

BTW, I'm not sure if the akasa is any good but I have been recommended this fan by a few of my friends: Coolermaster Jet 7

A friend of mine had an Akasa HSF unit. It was pretty good, although a to get on/get off.
There are only three heatsink manufacturers worth considering:

I like Zalman CPU coolers personally, but everyone has different views...

SLK 900 is only 3 degrees better. And it cost more.
Thermalright in general are the best though. There are a few that come close mind, a whole lot more decent products have come out since Thermalright started wrapping up the market. Some Zalman's are pretty good as are Swiftech.
But for really low temps, water is the way too go. Or Prometia.
