It is said that in the future, we shall be able to have games that can be played as if they were real (except without the risk) and that one day graphics will look so good that it will be near impossible to distinguish between them and real life. This may be true but i think it is unlikely it will happen within the next 30 years. People seem to be too worried about making 100% great and realistic graphics these days and this is often a cause of them forgetting gameplay. I see this as the worst thing that could happen to the industry. Some games such as Freespace2 and Soldier of Fortune have managed to create good graphics without losing gameplay (especially Freespace2) but more and more games seem to concentrate on graphics to make sales. This is just a thought of course, thanks for reading and sweet dreams.

When Gran Turismo was being made, the creators realised that they'd have to sacrifice realistic handling for a more arcade feel. Looking at Driving Emotion Type S, it's easy tom see why they did this. Squares game has the most realistic handling ever, but ends up being totally unplayable!

Anyway, is realism the was forwards? Would you want to play games just like real life? Sure sports games would be good, but I think the future is more about fantasy games, in worlds that could never exist in real life. Ideas like Eternal Arcadia and Phantasy Star will become far more used in the future over the realistic ideas of Shenmue. If Shenmue were any more realistic, then there would be no fun in it. That's why the way forward is making games that could never exist in a real world. After all, would you really want to have to watch Ryu go and urinate every day?

Many games have sacrificed graphics for gameplay ( did it ever work ) i dint think so. The other night, me and 3 other people had a dreamcast, 20 games, with gun and fishing rod, and guess what we played all night. GOLDEN EYE for the N64. Ever played Chu Chu rocket for the dreamcast, best playability bar none. anyway, ive got to go to school now, but please reply on my opionio.
