At the very end:
"If the British people were to vote 'no', a Conservative government would veto the constitution: and we would not agree to any new treaty which establishes a constitution for the European Union."
He'll never agree to a new treaty for the EU.
The EU's increasing to 25 member states soon, running on the original (modified) constitution for 6 states. To operate effectively it needs some sort of a new constitution.
To be honest, the new constitution probably won't contain anything controversial at all. It'll change voting weights, but that's not raised any significant concern to Britain's role. It'll also change procedures and some other fairly minor details.
The constitution doesn't change our relationship with the EU, so it doesn't need a referendum. However, because of ignorance and scaremongering it's going to get one.
The EU would require a unanimous acceptance by its members to adopt the new constitution, so potentially if the referendum prevents us signing up to it, we'll have screwed up the EU for no good reason other than we're ignorant xenophobic toshers, living in irrational fear of Jimmy Immigrant.
Blair's plan, if the referndum fails, would be to 'renegotiate' the constitutional changes with the British public.
Fine, we can at least get something acceptable through, revise the ideas to make them acceptable to this country of mongs.
Howard, however, would have one referendum, then scrap the whole thing for ever.
The quote above didn't show this well enough, it was the only one I could find on bbc.co.uk (if anyone finds something better you're welcome to link to it). But other news reports I've read offline confirmthat he definitely meant that he would never accept a new EU constitution.
So, if Howard gets in at the next election, as well as spreading his cynical policies of greed, fear and ignorance, he'll do his best to screw up not only Britain, but the EU too.
Obviously Lib Dems won't win enough to stop either deceitful Blair or Daily Mail poster-boy Howard, so it's a pretty tough choice.
Blair may lie to us as he screws us all, Howard might be honest about it, but he'll screw us more.
And a vote for the lib dems may help us strengthen them for a few elections down the line (by which time they'll probably be just as filthy anyway), but I figure it's more important to vote for the lesser of two evils.
I'm leaning towards 'better the b****** you know (Blair, despite the deceitful front) than the b****** you don't'.
But I want out of this country more than ever.
