You would select a character that would be a choice of famous directors and start of with a small crew who, to start of with aren't very good and might need a bit of training. You then must come up with a film, from an inventory list but you will only have a couple of choices at first. Then you must decide which one will make the most money.
Then you must advertise and recruit new actors to perform in your film.
Next is the long part where you tell the new actors what to do and start filming. Once this is completed and perfect you can advertise about the film and get companies to buy it and get it shown in cinemas, and watch the money keep flowing in. You can even create your own cinema (if you have enough money) and take on a first person view and watch what the character is watching.
From here on your Bankroll will increase and more companies will want to make offers and your choice of what type of films that you can direct are lengthened.

It would seem V. primative by todays standards of course, but it was a similar idea to this.
You were a band/artist manager called Clide or Clive or something and you had to work on band/artist promotionand arrange gigs and stuff. It was quite good fun to play and when you made bad decisions and lost all your money, your boss told you to 'Go and slit your wrists.'
