Raikkonen finally breaks his duck

After 37 previous attempts and numerous 2nd place finishes, Kimi Raikkonen has won the San Marino Grand Prix, his first career win. It was a hard fought race from lights to flag and although it was dry, the track was very slippery.

Barrichello spun in the middle of the pack and fell to the back early on. The race was on at the front between the two Jordans as Fisichella led Firman but Firman looked the quicker of the two. Firman started putting the pressure on, Fisichella cracked and ran wide, giving Firman the lead and Fisichella slipped to 4th.

Salo's good start to the year ended in a plume of smoke on lap 6 when his engine failed. Montoya and Michael Schumacher had offs but Da Matta had a spin that ended any chances of points. He spun off the track and got stuck on the kerb trying to recover. It took him the best part of a lap to get back racing again.

The lead was then to change as Firman, who looked extremely comfortable in the lead, pulled off the track with damage to his left front wheel on lap 12. It's been a disastrous start to the season for the World Champion. Da Matta pushing the car spun and Coulthard had a spin too.

MG F1 showed some vunerability in this race as both cars failed to finish. De La Rosa retiring on lap 24 with a transmission failure. There was no love lost between former teammates Barrichello and Michael Schumacher. Barrichello went for an overtaking move on another car and turned straight into Schumacher. Schumacher needed a new front wing but Barrichello survived unscathed.

Baumgartner suffered the same fate as Da Matta when he got stuck on the same kerb and lost a bagful of time and spun near the end of the race in obvious frustration. Bruni, Sato and Fisichella all had late offs but didn't lose much time.

Coulthard was the final retirement on lap 38 when his engine blew up. Another major incident was Villeneuve holding onto 4th, having completed his pit stops, trying to hold off Button and Verstappen, who hadn't made their last stop. Button was relentless and forced his way through and Verstappen was even more ruthless and forced Villeneuve onto the grass.

Raikkonen is now back in the title hunt after a victory in San Marino. Fisichella takes 2nd place for Jordan, who are looking a bit better after a dodgy start. Pantano had a quiet race in 3rd. Villeneuve looked quick and got the strategy spot on for 4th. Frentzen took some points for Sauber in 5th. Button was just pipped by Frentzen and took 6th. Pizzonia edges closer to the top of the Championship with 2 points for 7th and Verstappen gets his first point of the season in 8th.

One damn good day! Button comes in sixth place and a third place in the predictions extends my championship lead to 8 points.

I also found out that I got an A* on my recent modular GCSE Maths exam, but that's not relevant. :)
