I was just wandering whether recordable DVD players are worth it or not. I'm thinking of getting one. I heard there very expensive and so are the rewritable DVDS. I reckon after a while VHS will probably be replaced by those recordable DVD players because now they both can record of the TV.
Has anyone got a recordable DVD player? and if you record off TV doesn't it reduce the picture quality?
Which is better for recording off TV a VHS or a Recordable DVD?

Oh, and I didn't realise, but SR have now got the wonderful YAMADA DVR-8000, which not only records DVDs, but can play multi-region ones too.

DVD will record in digital, so if you have a digital sky or freeview box then the quality will remain the same. That said, you can choose to reduce the quality a little and get more space on the DVD. Either way it's still miles better than VHS.

The cost has now come down greatly, to the extent where the Recorders are £175 (in one particular nationwide shop beginning with W) and the discs are getting to be around the same price that CDRs were only a year ago.

The other plus point with Recordable DVD is that you can easily skip to the next free part of the DVD. No more accidentally recording over your last programme, and of course it's also easy to skip to the last thing or the first thing you taped without having to bother with rewinding and fast-forwarding.

DVD Recordable will eventually replace VHS, but not for a while yet, but if you can record and watch DVDs on the same machine, and then record over them without losing quality, what's the point of tape anymore?
