It is clearly an FPS. Just a different style.

It's a game in the mould of an FPS, but has been developed with a unique approach.

You can have new games in old genres you know!

Didn't think that much of the ts2 multiplayer...

Then again I'm not a great fan of FPSs anyway.

TS2 is a great FPS, Metroid isn't an FPS and FF games are great.

Metroid is a first person shoot-'em-up.

But it is also a first person adventure.

It is multi-genre.

Metroid Prime isn't an FPS.

However, TimeSplitters 2 is great!

Metroid Prime is NOT a FPS game and if you treat it that way your enjoyment will be hampered like mine was early on in the game.
