I also consider it a first person adventure, for the same reason.
As I've already said, its multi-genre.
There's no rule that dictates a game must be specifically single-genre.

You need to take it into a different account than that Edgy... yes it features first person shooting but then every game cross-genres... you need to think about it, it is first person so yes it is an FP but what is more dominant and vital to the gameplay? shooting or adventure?
So is it a FPS or a FPA?
The system never fails :^)
*Fails*
What I meant originally, is that no-one actually classes Metroid as an FPS, even though it, is (not) because it's unorthodox.

But, in Doom there was a hell of a lot of backtracking to solve puzzles.
So, does that mean it isn't an FPS, but an FPB?
> An FPS is based around running around shooting and killing.
And FPS is the name given to a game playedin a first person perspective throughout the majority/entirety of the game, as well as firing some kind of weapon when the need arises.
There is shooting, but the game doesn't make that the main element of the game, largely because it does most of the shooting work for you.
So calling it a 'Shooter' isn't really accurate.
I'd have to say it's a First Person Backtracker, FTB.
An FPS is based around running around shooting and killing.
Metroid is based around backtracking and simple puzzle solving. Oh, and adventuring.
