Here are my views:

A magazine should be informative, unbiased and professional. Let's examine:

Informative: For months and months NOM was saying how great 64DD would be and how cool the games were. At the same time every other mag was admitting that it was a dead duck. Then, all of a sudden, NOM stop all 64DD coverage and put in a small story about the 64DD only coming out in Japan... BUT it was GREAT because ninty could test their internet connection...

The fact is that in NOM's eye Ninty can do NO wrong! This is clearly stupid, and means that the readers seem to have their head in the sand so to speak. In fact, if these readers began to read quality multi-format mags they would see what the rest of the gaming world was getting up to!

UNBIASED: errrrr... the way NOM says that N64 racing games are FAR better than PSX driving games... until Ridge Racer comes to the 64 at which point it becomes the centre piece of discussion!

PROFESSIONAL: Right... calling a console the "Fony Greystation" is not funny... it just shows narrowmindedness. The fact is the the PSX is just as good in the N64 in most ways, better than the N64 in some ways and worse than the N64 in other ways. But oh no! how can any other console live up to ninty!

Finally, reviews. I read EDGE (quality multiformat mag... worth a look... they have more interviews with Shigsy and the like then NOM!). In edge they score out of 10. IF a game gets 10/10 this means that it is absolutely brilliant... almost perfect and is a must buy for everyone. If a game gets 5/10, it is an everage game. This is where a majority of N64 games should come... they simply use tried and tested formulae. NOM however, disagrees. If a game isn't bad it automatically gets about 75%. This should mean that it is well above average... but usually does not. Also, how many games has NOM given +90%. Anything this high should be close to perfection! This is just completely stupid.

how many times do i have to say this, NOM is not crap! just because it has more screenshots than text (sometimes) in it's reviews doesn't mean it's for younger people, it appeals to ALL ages and besides what would you rather see more of text e.g opionion dominated comments or loads of class screenshots?
And besides NOM have more screenshots than any other of the UNOFFICIAL magazines and they are in general of better quality, also even though they don't have very much text in there reviews they deliver more actual in-game information than the unofficial magazines do, this is because they get straight to the point and give the readers the information they wan't rather than waffling on like other magazines do.
Also they are always first with all the latest news, info and rumors about GBA and GAMECUBE and always try to find out whether the rumors are true or not, they also have good competitions, a couple of months back they had a competition to win two game boy advance's and all of the UK launch titles, whereas the only competitions iv'e known of to be in unofficial magazines are to win silly things like PkMn toys and stuff like that.
They also have a whole 4 pages devoted to cheats which is more than the average 1 or 2 that you see in other magazines, and all of NOM's cheats actually work, which i know from experience and have never had a cheat that doesn't work from them, they also have the most usefull tips, hints and cheats and they DO help you to get more out of games.
The only downside is the free gifts that they give out sometimes because most of the time it's either pokemon or wrestling stuff which is crap and i give to my brother, howerver! occasionally they give out a usefull gift, for example next month they are giving away a free slip case for the GBA ha! bet you didn't know that! anyway the gifts are not always useless and apart from this factor they are an excellent magazine overall, this is all i have to say on the matter NOM rules and that's the bottom line, anyone who agrees with me,great! thank you! but anyone who disagrees with me i just don't care any more now could we please leave this particular forum and go and talk about the GBA please?...oh well i'm outta here! c ya..

on the subject of cover CDs , will the GCs exclusive 3" optical drive discs be to expensive to just put on a the front of a magazine for free. PS2 and PCs use very common media ( CD and DVD ) which are mass produced by the billions. but im sure only nintendo use this type of specialist 3" media. production of which is surely more expensive than just a bog standard DVD disc or CD.
