Recently I have been thinking that my everything I am learning now at University will be a complete waste of time because I keep looking at the amount of things that could alter the future of our lives. The world of 2004 is not a happy place, since the Second World War it has been growing and prospering or the Developed World has. Despite the occasional hiccup in Britain with Margaret Thatcher etc the majority of us have a very good middle class lifestyle. But is this all going to change?

How many times have you turned on the television and seen a news broadcast or documentry warning us about the 'future'. Just think of the number of negative things that keep being mentioned:

Off the top of my head I can think of:

Fuel shortages.
Global Warming.
Terrorism and the constant need for the West to inforce democracy on people.
A growing population around the world and the lack of food/water which could lead to many things.
More unstable countries and hostilities.
An aging population and lower birthrate in UK.
Are we going to be able to buy a house? Or stay with parents forever.
An increasing gap between the rich/poor.
The constant decrease in performance of public services.
A population of lazy individuals who are turning obese .
A youth growing up with a single parents, abuse, poverty and drugs/alcohol/crime.
An increase in the right movement in UK and increased racist attacks
Governments seem to be suggesting that people work for them and not the other way around.

Some of those things may look like weak cases but any increase in one can criple our country. Think of how your work/home requires power to operate, without it and things stop - who remembers the furl shortages a fewe years back? In a few days things in the country looked to be stopped dead.

The other night I watched two programmes about how 'another Chernobyl' is almost inevitable, another super volcanic eruption is due and could kill billiob people by blocking out sun for years.

Sorry, I'm paranoid about things but lets just say things have changed a damn sight worse for the better since my parents generation.

He will judge people who do not hear the Gospel, according to whether they reject Jesus and then by their conscience.

God will love you, but you have to put your faith in Him.

you're not wrong sheepy, I'm pretty sure any skills I have now will be obsolete when I go for a job, that's assuming they were all that useful to start with.

For the most part, I agree with Bell.

In general there's a lot less problems in the world.
We just have more of a social conscience and we notice them a lot more.

However, global warming and the oil supplies are probably a more serious issue. Most of the luxuries we take for granted are oil based, like many medicines and plastics.
Frittering it all away as fuel could cause us many problems.
Besides, cold fusion might turn out to be impossible.

Global warming could be disasterous if nothing is done about it.
Sure, if would make the world in general a bit warmer, but this would mess with the eco-system to no end.
It turns out, that if the ice caps keep melting then tropical currents will stop reaching Britain and we'll freeze over.
We'd end up with Siberian weather.

Scientists say we can probably live with that, it's just a case of how quickly this change comes about to whether we survive it or not...

Still, they say that it's a minimum of 20-30 years away so no worries yet. :-)

so your statement about Jesus being the only was isn't strictly true?

I still can't accept that people who choose another religon will not be "saved". Loads of people are brought up in cultures where a different religon is prevenlant. There are so many religons that picking the right one is like pot-luck.

I don't think if there was a God who loved us, he would allow our redemption to hang on such a thing.

A year ago I was a Christian (I'm sure some of the people here can vouch for that fact), but I was made to feel so guitly about the way I live my life by other Christians that I took a step back and really examined what I belived and what made sense to me, and what I ended up with where a LOT of issues with biblical teachings. I don't belive in the bible any more. That doesn't mean that I believe that there isn't a god. I'm happy not to know at the moment. I do know that if there is a God who loves me, then it wouldn't want me to go through what I want through last year again.

No, they will be judged according to how they treated God and their conscience.
