XBOX CPU= 733MHz, 150 million polygons/s
PS2 CPU = 294MHz, 20 million polygons/s, which is still impressive, but compared to XBOX...
and this is just a breif of advantages XBOX had...
And the shipping problem of PS2 hasnt helped. This is just what XBOX could of hoped for, as people get mad as they cant get a PS2, and will wait for the XBOX. So sorry SONY, but it seems like whatever Microsoft touches becomes GOLD, and you have had your turn...Its Microsofts NOW!!!
Who cares if it's out yet? That doesn't change the figures.
> so if nintendo arnt competing with x box and ps2 who are they competing with?
Nintendo apparently don't consider themselves to be in direct competition with Sony. GameCube is a games-only system, while PS2 and X-Box are supposed to be considered 'Home Entertainment Systems' because they do more than play games.
>they aint exatcly gonna say out load that are trying their
>hardest to beat microsoft and sony. cos if they lose they
>would have to eat those words
You obviously have every confidence in them then!
The point you make about DVD playback is true - why put a DVD-ROM in any machine and then not offer DVD movie playback straight off?
Some people say Sony could have left off DVD movie capabilities and dropped the price. If they had done that, people (probably the same ones!) would be saying the same about Sony as they are about Microsoft - "It's a money-grabbing exercise! Why doesn't it play movies out of the box?"
Whatever Sony and Microsoft had done regarding DVD, one group or another would complain about it.
Personally, I was happy to pay £299 for my PS2. In fact, if they did away with high software prices subsidising the 'low cost' of consoles (i.e. pay more for the console but get cheaper games), I'd probably have been willing to pay up to £600 for the machine - any machine that appealed to me, that is... not just PS2.
As I've said many times before, I may buy something else in the future, but I'll see what they can do in the real world first.
