What move did you use to damage it?
The best I can get is 350 with fox. I smash attack it right at the start to knock it to the edge. Then get the bat and run up to it and then keep firing his laser until theres only one second left, then whack it with the bat. It has 80% damage when I hit it (and 108% after its been hit) but it still only goes 350 :(

You can't get it that far in 10 seconds, my furthest is about 30m with DK.
you can get it at least 100M by just giving it one big smash with the baseball bat straight away...

Use Dr. Mario's cape and hit it repeatidly, then fire a few pills at it (2) and then smash it! Should be about 119% after smashing, if it goes over 390 then it works.
It isn't just weakness, distance from bag plays a part as well.

You need to use the bat, press the direction and A at the same time to do a smash.
