I read somewhere that generally dvd players suffer fewer lip-synch issues when using the digital output directly to an av amp.
I am currently running an analogue sound output through my prologic tv, but don't have a digital amp to prove or disprove this....can anyone confirm that they have tried DIGITAL AND ANALOGUE methods on their PS2 getting different results?
I'm gonna phone SONY today to see if they'll replace it for me.....there's not ONE disc where I don't have lip-sync problems!!!!
I'm one of those people who felt that the DVD playback was a major reason for buying ps2 (not having a dedicated player), but it just don't work!
I take it you got a launch machine Dave. Launch machines DO have more problems than newer ones. The DVD driver in the originaly released machines is 1.20e, now it is 1.30e.
Many problems have been fixed in the newer driver; including some lip synch.
The drivers cannot be replaced or updated.
Sony knew they were bringing out a substandard DVD driver at launch, and they had 6 months from the Jap release to get it right. The hardcore gamers who bought at launch were screwed because of profits and deadlines.
.... but it still playes fantastic games!
as soon as you notice that its gone out, pause the playback and then press play again. it fixes it every time.
It's not exactly a fix, but it does work.
The Jap PS2's had to load the DVD driver from the memory card. This implies that we can update ours in the same way once they sort the lip sync stuff out. Come on sony, at least stick it on the cover of a magazine...

as far as I can tell, the dvd player does NOT function correctly in my PS2.
Therefore I will talk to Sony.
After paying 300 quid I'm entitled to something that does what it says on the box, and frankly my ps2 is virtually unusable as a dvd player. whoever heard of having to pause and play 5 times throughout a film just to get the lip-sync in order? if it happened at a cinema you'd ask for your money back, wouldn't you?
I hate to sound like a whinger but it really is NOT good enough.
I wouldn't recommend replacing it because it's not a fault.
