1 to 14 means that you have to put on a £14 bet to win £15 (£1 winnings and your original £14 stake).
What do you mean 1 to 14? Surely that should mean

If the fiver doesnt mean a lot to you right now then there are worse things you could have done with it.

Would be good if betting worked that way, if he did that and Tories won he would have £40 after staking £10, if Labour won he would have £5.35 after staking £10, loss of £4.65.
Of course this is better than his current situation of losing a fiver :D
