I’ve just bought Doom 3.

I have a P4 3.2 GHZ, 512 RAM with a 9800x radeon card.

All in all, an ok machine.

Anyway, when I’m playing Doom 3, I keep getting white specs on the screen, some to the point where it makes the game unplayable. Sometimes the specs are red dots.

I’m no wizard when it comes to computers, so is there anything I can do to rid the small white dots?

Seems like a graphic card problem?

Any simple solution. Does the 1.1 patch sort this out? Any simple soloution?

This is frustrating and wrecking my enjoyment of this game.

Cheers

Usually artifacting is caused by one of two things, overheating or a damaged video card.

White specks could have been cause due to downloading to much porn and the red ones back up this theory and you should see a doctor.

Sounds like the GPU is over heating. What sort of cooling do you have on your graphics card? Have you been a little over clocking wh*re?

A few people have mentioned overheating. I don't even know what over clocking is mate.

I haven't touched the card. Ever. It's a Radeon 9800pro.

I haven't downloaded any drivers either. Still the same drivers from when I first bought it.

Anyone else get these white specs/dots on screen?

I used to get them with my old card. It's what's been said. It's overheating.

Download the latest drivers, but that'll not solve the problem.

Don't get the latest Catalyst drivers, all the 5.x series are absolutely crap with the source engine. Grab the 4.12's and also make sure that the fan on the card isn't stuck, may be worth leaving the side off the case whilst you play it and see if that makes a different. It won't be the memory chips, it will be the GPU that is too hot.

Clean the fan on the card, leave the side of the case off and give it another crack.
