You're just a graphics tart. The story and gameplay of four and six are much better than any of the later ones. Well, I've not actually played nine and ten, so I can't comment on them.
And I chose CivII, because it was great. Civ I was just too limited and by CivIII, the market was flooded with similar type games. Civ II was a real genre defining game.
