(Relates to Sony PS1-2-3 by.... umm if you want to design a PS3 game one day?)
I have rougth but not so sure ideas of how to become a game designer while living in the United Kingdom.
1- Create a Computer game at home and take it to a company.
2-
Do a
ICT Foundation Course (1 year)
and then a
ICT Intermediate Courses (1 Year)
to get the grades to do a
BTEC National Diploma for IT Practitioners Course.(2 Years) (software)
After passing with good grades apply at a University for a
Game Design Course.(3 Years)
After you come out of this course you should be ready to be employed.
Please reply if you agree, disagree or know of a diffrent way.

EA are probably the most secure job in gaming, however ;). They're not likely to go bust tomorrow.
Also hedfix, you'll hate me, as I like EA. :P
They're personally slaughtering the games industry.

EA also have a poor employment record and make employees work very long days + ridiculous overtime.

No, you'll find they're actively providing inceasing dividends for their shareholders year on year, which is the whole point of a company on the stock market :).
The games are just a means to an end, so they churn out endless sequels with limited financial output, whilst producing one new brand every year or two, and then milking the codebase for all it's worth.
Excellent business sense.

In their development studios yes, but if the Europen directive to limit the maximum working week to 48 hours comes into force, that wont apply here.
There's nothing to say their publishing operations are like that.

Actually they had a hard time at the beginning of the year. Although I buy the odd EA game I now try to purchase them secondhand a few months down the line from release simply because EA are scum.
They're still beheading creativity by not taking any risks.
Good for them, bad for everyone else.
