My guess is that the emulation software will be on the harddrive and that they say it will work with the top Xbox games is because they probably can't get them all tested in time. There will also likely be a degree of PPC code generation so that all subsequent plays of Halo run at least some of the code natively.

So that means I can play Xbox games on a 360, yey!...
Why don't microsoft just stick the 360 in an Xbox, and then call it the Xbox 360.

Rubbish.
The PSOne used a MIPS3000 processor, the PS2 used a MIPS5000 series processor.
The PS2 HAS a MIPS3000 series processor in it to run PSone games.
It acts as an IO controller for processing input etc. when the PS2 games are using the main processor.
