I think one problem people have with it is the way it's written, but that's just how things were written in the Regency era; long, flowing, "classical" sentences were considered to be civilised. And it's amusing to see 'etc' spelt as '&c', as it was assumed people actually knew what et cetera meant back then.
It must have had a bit of an odd impact on me, I've said nothing about the storyline...
