It has just been announced (by Robert Llewellyn at a convention) that the BBC have commissioned a 60 minute Red Dwarf episode to be filmed in October 08 with original cast and writers.

Now I know many think the series lost it's way in series 7 and 8, but the episodes of 8 that had the budget were actually very good, so a one off special sounds like it could work.

Anyway, the Official Red Dwarf site hasn't posted the news yet, but it does sound pretty definite.

Update:
3 episodes from 10-12th April.
Making of and outtakes/best of by Patrick Stewart.

Excellent news, I had suspected something like this might happen as Rob said something on his last youtube video but couldnt talk about it. I've been following him on twitter too while he's been at the con.

It's implied that Rob will be working on it, yes.

Oh man I hope so, really want to see the both of them writing together again. Just one episode is fine for now though!

Hope it's true they are, that'd really make it special.

As it's the 20th anniversary of RD and they've both expressed an interest in writing more, I would expect the old Grant Naylor magic to be back.

Good stuff.

Wasn't there talk of a full length film at one point though?

Changing tack slightly, can anyone remember the name of the programme that Craig Charles did after Red Dwarf, where people went round in a kind of Virtual Reality Crystal Maze type thing.

I swear I'm not making it up....
