Four people I know on Live have had their 360's die on them and two of them have had their replacements die on them too.

These are all launch machines and have lasted between 3 and 6 months.

One of them also claims to know someone who's been through 4 360's since launch!

Anyone know of anyone who's 360 has died on them? How many months did it work for and how's their replacement machine doing?

My 360's up for it's 3 month anniversary (meh, what would you call it? :D) but thankfully I waited past launch and got one around June-time. :S

Hopefully I've escaped the launch-curse I thought I'd be avoiding.

I haven't even switched mine on for about four months. It could be knackered for all I know. I need to buy a game...I'm thinking Dead Rising...

The question you should be probably asking is 'Whose 360 is still working.' People who've had bad experiences are more likely to tell people than those who've had good experiences. My 360 has crashed once or twice since December but is otherwise okay. That's not to say there aren't issues. From what I've read about these dirty disc errors, I think it's something to do with the way data is cached on the hard disk, not the actual disks themselves.

Mine is fine, though it's not a launch model.

Yes, it seems that any launch model of any machine (most notably the PS2, Saturn and original xbox) can have teething problems. That's what you get for early adopting.

The only company who I haven't heard it happening to is Nintendo, though I'm sure some Gamecubes must have gone wrong somewhere...

After Eternal Darkness everyone was too afraid to admit their were having technical problems.

There are millions of busted gamecubes across the world, and nobody's quite brave enough to tell anyone about it.

Got mine at the end of December and it has been fine up until getting Saints Row.

Game freezes at times during single player game. Can play the online mode for hours and any other game I have fine but for some reason the single player mode freezes quite regularly.

Seems plenty of folk are having similar problems too with saints row and a few other games.

Not tried getting a replacement yet but have heard the service from M$ has been quite good to those I know who have had to get models replaced (ie they'll collect the unit and deliver it fixed or a replacement within about a week)

It might be true, but its just that I've never seen anyone who owns a Gamecube complaining about it having broken.

And why after Eternal Darkness?

Hello?

It was a joke.

It didn't make sense (to me)

I thought it might be a stab at humour, but maybe you murdered the joke or I made a killer mistake in reading it?
