The lack of patriotism on this website is quite frankly abhorrent and must be rectified lest your new Queen Jennis feast on your children's dreams.

Therefore I give you this thread to discuss the Power of the Crowd, and how it is made manifest in our athletes' great success.

How dare you question pete_13s knowledge.

Oh I admit my knowledge on the sport is very limited.

GB ''disqualified''

China ''relegated''

BBC in shoddy reporting shocker. I would think the first of those links was subbed by someone with the same amount of familiarity with cycling as yourself, Pete.

Results

How come they were ranked 8th of 10 if they were disqualified?

RastaBillySkan... i'm afraid that hyperlinking faux pas means you're disqualified from life. Congratulations

allow me to explain.

GB were relegated for an infringement in the first round, when there were 8 teams still in the competition. they were therefore placed 8th of those 8 teams and eliminated from the competition.

china were relegated for an infringement in the final, when there were only 2 teams still left. therefore they were placed 2nd of those 2 teams and picked up the silver medal.

is it really that hard to understand ???

I think I've realised where this misunderstanding comes from. The use of disqualified is race specific rather than event specific. GB and China were both disqualified from their races and therefore demoted in the event.

You dolt

dolt?, that's nice.

Thanks for the clarification RBS, I did actually watch this particular event at the time (one of the few I have) and even the commentators weren't 100% sure of what was going to happen. Can't think of any other sports where competitors get ''disqualified'' from a heat and go on to be awarded with an Olympic medal. Although I'm sure some of you experts will be more than happy to provide me with plenty of examples...
