To put it in plain and simple terms, the only way to protect your images from being downloaded from a web page is to not put them online in the first place, which kind of defeats the object of you putting them there in the first place.
Many 'solutions' exist - google 'till you've read them all ... but at the end of the day, a solution will be found to 'circumnavigate' whatever is in place to 'protect' the images. Fact of web life:¬(

So I thought I would have a look at the many automatic watermarking scripts out there. It still won't stop your image being copied - but being able to automatically add a logo or watermark to your images can be useful.

After faffing around with some of the PHP scripts I found they initially looked good but an extra tweak is required to stop people looking at the code and getting the image directly from it's location without the watermark. I think I've got things sorted here.

However I've just 'removed' your watermark from your son's car using an ancient copy of Serif PhotoPlus 8.02 :¬)
Transparent watermarks are usually considered to be better as they are more difficult to remove, especially if they are positioned to 'obscure' the focus of the image....however, Photoshop CS5 (Content Aware Fill tool) and GIMP 2.0 ( has a similar tool) are capable of removing 'transparent watermarks' with no detriment to the image, if you are really that desperate to have a 'clean' but copied image :¬)

Obviously a simple crop would do to remove my logo!
I would be interested to see how well Serif filled in the image can you post it somewhere? I've added a new pic of our neighbours ponies for you to use, so you can't just pinch the non-watermarked car one ;¬)

Ha ha ... the easiest way is to use GIMP or CS5 but I'll 'give' the ponies ago, including the hand! But got to do tea now, so maybe in a couple of hours. I'll try and sort out a 'posting' area too :¬)

No probs Hmmm .... tea sorted, hand-made moussaka and roasted vegetables...and a bottle of red wine ... does take a bit of time though :¬)
The 'ponies' have won, or rather PhotoPlus8 has failed! The car was easy as the 'bumper' is a large area but fence, wire, background and pony's hair (not to mention the hand) were just too much :¬(
But 'cropping' the picture would give an acceptable image due to the position and 'non transparent' nature of the 'watermark/logo'.

I guess if the watermark is intrusive enough (and large enough) then it will put most off - or leave a badly patched up graphic if people try to remove it.
As for cropping - if you were serious about attempting to protect your images you would have to put the watermark centrally over the original.
As much as anything the script I'm using may just be a good way to 'brand' your work with a logo etc. without having to change each original which could be useful for some.
I hope we haven't scared the original poster off!
