The reviews are good but not great (it reminds me of Midtown Madness on the PC - which isn't a bad thing) but I must be the only person in the world who doesn't own GTA3 or Vice City and it looks so similar to those games but obviously with different gameplay.
I would welcome any new good racing game but have my doubts, prove me wrong please....

It's worth getting if you want an arcade racer with challenge, because after the first few races the traffic gets heavier and the races get Tough (with a capital T, I'm not kidding, you'll be stuck on some of the stages trying to unlock Paris for a LONG time).

It's fun though, already there's a bunch of us online racing each other regularly through the Parisian streets and LA suburbs. Online mode was a little dissappointing in that there's nothing to show for it, no laptimes saved or records set, you just login, race (or play capture the flag/detonator) then say your goodbyes.

But the racing itself online is megafun, and a good taster of what Gran Turismo 4 might offer in the future. (I hope they have some kind of leaderboard/laptime recording function online as well, because you really do need something to show you've been there or else what's the point?)

Thanks for the opinion Phil, I already have GT3, Motogp3, Tour De France and most other decent racing games, think I'll give it a miss and get Burnout 2 on the Gamecube instead.

Cheers.

If you haven't got Vice City, then I think you'd be better off going for that instead of Midnight Club, but if you're really after the racing element, and not the adventure side, then perhaps you should consider GT3 (platinum) if you're after a simulator style experience, or, and this would be the one I recommend most at the moment, Burnout 2.

I've had Burnout 2 a long time now, and still find myself going back to have another go. There is a guy (James Walker) in PSM2 who has set the most incredible Burnout 2 records, and I keep trying to reach those targets. I am level with a few, but on the whole, I'm a couple of seconds behing, and that really gives me something to aim for.

Anyway, I was getting a little diverted then, but basically I think you answered your own question when you said that Midnight Club was getting good reviews, but nothing special. You'd be better off looking for something that really is special, but through age has become a little cheaper.

(In my opinion etc...)
