Yesterday was Easter Sunday, the day when Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. Jesus was a real historical figure who was killed by crucifixion. There is plenty of evidence to prove that he walked the earth and that he was a hugely influential figure. He also claimed to be God in human form. This was ultimately proven when he conquered death and rose from the grave. This is what Christianity pivots on. He either did rise from the dead and is therefore Lord of all or he didn't and isn't.

I recently attended a talk on this topic in which the speaker debunked all of the popular alternative theories as to what happened. I thought it would be interesting to ask you lot what you think happened. This isn't a cue to come up with stupid theories. I'm asking you what you genuinely think happened. Did Jesus rise from the dead? and why did you come to your conclusion?

If you have never given it any thought or feel you don't know enough to fairly comment then still reply and possibly ask questions.

Strange topic...

If you have faith then obviously you're going to believe that Jesus rose from the dead etc. etc.

If you dont have faith then is there any chance you'd believe he rose from the dead still? Especially given a more important question for non-believers is whether he existed at all.

That's a common objection. I'm sure he was dead though. He'd been beaten and tortured for hours before the actual crucifixion. Towards the end of a crucifixion it was common place to break the legs of the victim to speed up the process (you die from suffocation as you cant push yourself up to get any breath as your legs are broken), but Jesus had already died when they came to break his legs. To be sure, the Roman guards pierced his side with a spear. If the Romans were good at something besides making straight roads it was killing people. The Romans wanted him dead and they would have made sure he was.

No, I doubt he was dead in the first place. Doctors can't have been very good back then, he was probably in a coma or something.
