Do you think people read less now than before? How many books do you read in a year?
I'm still undecided over whether to read the new Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy book. In a way it feels wrong that it's a HHGTTG book without Adams writing it, but I also want to see how well it fits.
I must admit that I don't read half as much as I did, it's very hard to sit down with a book when you have kids. I guess I read stuff on the internet more at the moment but I'd love the chance to get back in to reading properly. I'm a member of Amazon Vine, which lets you test out specific products each month and there are loads of books from new and old authors on there, so it's a good way of getting me to read something. Sometimes it's a pleasant surprise and at other times it's a slog to get through a book.

My wife somewhat converted me to books when I was commutting to Glasgow so I'd say it is at least 5 years since I've read a book.
In terms of people reading less, I can't comment for sure but all the people I know that read books still do.
I don't blame people for not reading much these days, most of the contemporary books on offer are God-awful. I abhor Dan Brown in particular, mainly because my fifteen year old brother has a better prose style than him. Don't even get me started on books like Twilight; where the author manages to misuse words on every page, and switch tense mid sentence.
I mainly stick to my 20th Century American literature, finished reading Atlas Shrugged yesterday, and I am now reading American Psycho.
And I've only recently started to get back into reading, but I'm reading about 1 a week and generally try to fit 60 pages in a night.
On a serious note I just can't seem to get into to any of my books at the moment.
EDIT: Oh pb I got that book for Xmas. Is it the same as Mr. Adams? Not quite no. But it is an ok read, and set in a familiar surrounding. Believe me and you have spoke about this before though, and being able to detract the fact that it's the same series etc. I can quite easily so I enjoyed it.
I'm too busy to read books anymore so I just joined audible.com (amazon company) and get 2 books a month and have people read them for me.
One of which was sitting in Cancun, on our deck outside our room, with the ocean for a view about 20 metres away, twilight setting, reading Stephen Kings Dark Tower series, sipping on some Mr Daniels and coke.
Now replace that with holding an iPad or listening to someone tell me the story and I don't know.......
It's mainly that I've just been doing more gaming/drinking lately.

Amen to that.
