It's a flash based version of the mini, with all the advantages that come with it. But of course, with Apple, it's a huuuuge event, so they had to pull out all their big guns. Only get this if you're a size freak, or want the extra battery life.

Or if you have something against owning a better player, with more memory for a smaller amount of money.

Is that really the case though? Recently, I wanted a light, easy to handle player that can store podcasts and a few songs while on the way to work. All the players I've seen prior to that decision have been tacky (buttons on the side, no thanks), hardly robust and actually more expensive. The shuffle was actually cheapest of the lot, along with the student discount they offer.

I got an iPod but if I was buying now I might look at something else but I don't care.

I've seen some nice Creative ones out there.

I always carry whatever's playing my music in a rucksack anyway so size really doesn't bother me.

I want a sizeable one so I can put all my CDs on it and then hook it up to my 360 in the future.

Otherwise I have a CD burner and a portable anti-skip CD player which set me back a whole 15 quid from Woolies. :)

Overpriced fashion item.

Apple get an old product and bring it out like it's new and they invented it. Wow? Oh, and a phone that plays iTunes!?! OMFG!! I mean, you can only have 100 songs on it whatever, you can't have more on there, wow?!

All the talk about ipod's being rubbish is crap. I like my ipod, yes a few of them went wrong, but so did 3 phones, silver ps2's, etc.. as well as other things. It started an era. creative are good, but apple are better

I like Ipods but i went with a creative as i use them for my sound card and all my audio needs on my pc, i can see why people go for an ipod though as they are pretty.

i don't like all theses different versions though and the fact that they are stupidly high priced.

The entire 1st gen of iPods died! There are hardly any that still work now if they've been used enough.

My 1st gen ZEN is still going strong. It's huge but it works fine, plus nobody will mug me for it because I'll bludgeon them to death with it.

Oh, and the Zen has now got patents on the user interface their mp3-players use ... and had been using ages before iPod came around. Lawsuits abound, I should expect.

There's a new tiny tiny Zen coming out soon as well, if I recall.
