That's why they weren't interested in Owen, they were lining up 19 yr old Welsh sensation Ramone Calliste, released from Man Utd last year.

What's more, they've alos brought in exciting prostect Besian Idrizaj, an Austrian winger.

Let the good times roll at Anfield!

Ian Harte. Now there's a lad who can strike a dead ball.

You need to take into account the 3 different managers, the constant threat of administration... Viduka eating too many pies, Smith's secret liasons with Fergie and a defence which consisted of Gary Kelly and 3 players who they picked from the crowd.

Newcastle always start slow, well, in recent years anyway. If they are still in a mess around 19-20 games, Souness will be in trouble. Of course, he could be in trouble sooner than that...

Ah yeah, like a team with England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, England starlet Alan Smith, Ian 'free-kick' Harte, Gary Kelly, et al. in?

Granted, different circumstances, but Leeds had a mid-table team with ease. And we died.

I didn't say they'd be pushing for 4th place either.

It is a dodgy start. Then again they had just the one striker...

When they got a second they came against Manchester United who are on a mission at the moment.

I'm sure Owen will give them a lift. I'd love it, for Shearer's sake, if Souness can lead them to a cup this season. Even the league cup.

It indeed is too early to say, but 1 point and no goals in... 4 games(?) isn't exactly the start of a team pushing for fourth place.

Newcastle will not be in the relegation dog fight. They're too good.

Tsh, the gall... "I'm not interested in signing a striker," Rafa says, then the same day Mikey gets lured away by the promise of pies and a relegation battle... "We have this guy instead, he sounds Spanish and will be a goal machine, probably for the reserves against West Brom."
