Everyone (Plaid Cymru excepted) seems happy. And, I suppose, I can see their point. Labour are back, but with a much reduced majority. They wouldn't have been able to push through an awful lot of their legislation in the last parliament had they only had that majority. So Blair now HAS to pay more than lip service to his backbenchers. We might actually have genuine politics back, rather than a series of unpopular measures that ride roughshod over objections.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and to a large extent Labour no longer have that Absolute power. Time will tell whether or not that makes a difference.

That's actually a load of balls. I'm not his biggest fan, but most of what has been said about racial hatred is nothing more than slander. Same goes for the "appealing solely to male muslims" accusation; Respect are committed to some very un-Muslim ideals; gay rights and womens rights being foremost among these.
I think the majority of the people who vote who are older do so because they're worried about how it directly affects them i.e. house prices, pension, taxes etc. None of this stuff particularly affects me at the moment, I only voted against Labour because of the Iraq war.
I stayed up till 4:30am, I'm quite sad at the lack of Lib Dem support in the end. However, they were the only party to go up nearly everywhere, probably about 5% swing average.
Well, that is that for 4/5 years. 66 is still a massive working majority.
> How sad am I a sat up untill 4am watching the results come in
Same here, I watched until Labour got past the post.
Talking of smug gits, it's a shame Oliver Letwin got back in his constituency. Was cheering the Libs on there.
Fourth Term: Tories Strike Back?
> What's the deal with him then?
He's an odd one; he does seem to be old-school socialist and fairly principled with it. But by the same token, he is at the end of the day a politician and therefore one should remember that he does what he does because it's his job to do so. In other words, he should be supported, but should not be trusted any more than one would trust any other politician imho.
I'm glad he got elected cos there are too many automatons in Parliament. Someone with a cause will at least make his voice heard. I disagree with an awful lot of his principles, but the mere fact that he actually has any marks him out as a better man than most of the other MP's.
The polling supervisor did try to see if there was any way I could vote, but lack of options, and the Local council telephone number being eternally busy, he couldn't find a solution.
I would have voted Lib Dem though, even if it did turn out that Labour dominated in our area.
> What a shock win for Labour...nice to see all the people I spoke to
> that were "Yeah I'm voting Lib Dem" stuck to their guns
> eh?
> Useless.
Yeah, as I said yesterday, I'd love to know how many bottled at the last moment.
