Seeing as I'm listening to 'Hatful of Hollow' as I type, I thought I'd post a question to all you forummers out there: what are your views on The Smiths?

Yes, I know that Morissey (or however you spell his stupid name) is an utter nob. But I don't care.

So, forum people... Favourite Smiths songs/albums? If any?

Well... erm... yeah.

I'm not a big fan of his solo work, to be honest. His lyrics only work when they're back by genius Marr guitaring and such.

that is true to an extent, but then again i like the song, i like the placebo version too!

I'm not criticising his ability, its just not as many of his solo songs appeal to me.

You say you don't like Morrisey's solo stuff, and yet Bigmouth Strikes Again is completely carried by the vocals.

ive got really into them recently. Morrissey is a bit of a plonker and his solo stuff isn't that great. But the Smiths have some damn good material. Get your hands on The smiths: the singles. Admittedly there more famous songs are there better ones. "How soon is now?" is a hugely iconic tune, "Bigmouth strikes again" is my favourite song by quite some way.

they are very different to most other groups, and johnny marr writes some good backing music, and morrissey vocals can be quite amusing! get the singles its their best stuff, and very listenable too.
