I have no understanding how this topic has anything whatsoever to do with race.

Well being Roman Catholic anything said against them or anything that doesn't benefit them is automatically descrimination because of their religion so they claim.
Race/religion/age/gender/sexuality, if you're in any of those (perceived) oppressed groups you're protected from anything you dont like because you can just claim you're being descriminated against.

I guess you could argue that gypsies (travellers? How PC are we getting?) are a race in themselves. But isn't it more of a life choice, not a race?

Yeah, I'm confused too. It would like be saying targeting the Manson family or the Mafia would be racist. Er, not that you can compare gypsies to the mafia but you know what I mean.

I don't know much about this anyway so I won't comment, but it's probably people chanting up 'freedom! freedom!' without really realising that nobody is actually being personally targeted here.
