I currently have 1gb of RAM in my system, which is enough. However, I had a bit of spare dosh and splashed out on another stick of 1gb RAM which I saw running cheaper then usual.

I was just wondering if I will encounter any problems running my system with this amount of RAM?

I recently done a system check using Sandra lite and apparently I don't have enough room for more RAM. However, ASUS website states the motherboard has enough for 4gb. I've took a look inside, there are two more slots which are different colours. I'm using a ASUS A8V-Deluxe motherboard, if that is any help.

Is it just as simple as Plug in and go? Or erm, is it healthy?

So I recieved my RAM but have a problem.

I put it in but the PC does not start, the monitor just shows 'No signal'.

The no signal thing happened to my friends PC before, but he altered a BIOS option, I took the battery for the motherboard out anyway to see if it would fix it or not. But it doesn't.

Took the RAM out and it now works fine. Loaded default BIOS options, but not sure if I've missed anything important out with that. Well, urh, I changed the clock to the right time...

Anyway, I was looking at the RAM in my PC (I currently have 1gb) and I have four ports for it. I am using a ASUS A8V motherboard which supports up to 4gb of ram. The RAM in already seems to be 2 x 512mb, yet what I have is one stick.

Someone please help in letting me get this RAM in and up and running, away from nothing loading at all on the PC. Thanks in advance.

As I said, the difference is barely noticeable in bench tests. I was running FSB 206 with 1GB. As for the 250mhz, well yeah I kinda figured that running that high would make a difference. But then I also kinda figured that with the rest of my hardware the frame rate is faultless every time. I hit around 125FPS in Half-Life 2 and CS: Source with full settings.

Yes it is also at 2,2,2,5; as it has since I went for the XLPRO.

Plus as I have said already, the frame rate means jack all if it jerks every few seconds, with 2GB it simply doesn't.

A lower FSB can't NOT make a difference. I think you'd find that 1 GB running at 250 MHz, with a 10 or 10.5 multiplier will outperform what you are currently running. Even in single channel that would be better, dual channel better yet. But, if you aren't going to try that, at least tighten the RAM timings. With your RAM you should be on something like 2,2,2,5.

I got it for £75, so it's probably dodgy and nasty but nevermind :-)

I run 2GB but as a compensation I can not run in Dual Channel (not big shakes) as I am running 4 x 512mb.

Providing you remember to set the memory timing to DDR 166 to start with you shouldn't have any problems. I currently have mine at 166 + 16 so essentially I hav an FSB of 182.

The extra GB makes a massive difference to how smooth games run etc but it doesn't give a frame rate boost, nor does the slightly lower FSB lower it.

Just shove it in and go.

Your system can take upto 4GB of RAM.

All that does is tell you which memory modules are compatible, and you can't get sticks bigger than 1GB, so that's why it's the largest on that page.

It will work fine.

Although if it's unbranded cheapo RAM, it may not be of very good quality.

Although lookie here, it seems that 1GB is the max.
