Like the browser. But hate it not working with CSS's scrollbar attribute...

They all ready do!;) There are much better ways to author a side scrolling site which wouldn't involve having to use badly styled scrollers
Simple JS and a little CSS/DOM and bingo

As for using JS, as long as you work with in the stadards for Javascript 1.2/ECMA Script, there should be no issues at all with cross browser compatability.
Obviously if they have JS disabled (and anyone using MS's VJM should have this disabled by default), your a little stuffed, but with some inventive browser sniffing and alternative functions you can still ensure a similar result.

lol, shockwave is just a player, you author in Director!;) Still doesn;t fix the scroller issue, but then if your using Director, you could just script it to resize correctly based on screen resolution!
