I go away for a few days and come back to find my settings for XP have been changed so that it won't boot up into the XP desktop. :S

How do I:

make a new settings file without being in XP?

or

reset my computer/settings to their defaults so I can get into XP?

Cheers.

General wisdom is that you should hammer F8 as fast as you can to get in to safe mode. You only have a 1-second window, and no-one's really sure when that is.

I too need to flush my computer of all the crap it has on.
If you have a recovery CD, whack that in.

Yes 'should' :(

Anyway, exploring other options: What about a boot disk made from another PC with XP? or am I barking up the wrong tree as it's a windows problem?

Currently I just want to clear/flush the whole system as this is very annoying. :D

But if it doesn't work then it's probably another key.

I looked up safe mode on the net and it did say it was 'f8'.
