Seems like the crew at IGN.com really aren't taking to the game. Which is a massive shame as I was really looking forward to it:

I hope they're wrong.

I was hoping for a true follow up to Lylat Wars.

Give the series back to Miyamoto, he'll sort it out.

Aye. It could easily be given a half-decent story, and fleshed out a bit into something a bit more solid, a bit more memorable.

I mean, think about it - tanks and planes is all you need, maybe a hovercraft as well or something, but basically just have hundreds of levels set in loads of different situations, with different objectives.

The scope for taking part in massive space battles is what I was after, but it seems sadly lacking.

Yes for 10 quid it was suitable for a days play.

Above that it was awful. A real dreamcast-like dud.

Lylat Wars was probably the most played N64 game I had.

I played that to death, several times, with all different routes.

Killing the Starwolf team was excellent.

How I love arcadey games.

Those freeroaming levels against Starwolf were just so excellent and replayable. Imagine how good it could be on the GC, with hundreds of fighters on either side, it would just be immense. The thing about it was that it was never the same. The rest of the levels, the enemis appeared at the same times, and that's generally what we get from games these days, but it was almost like a sports game in its unpredictablity level.
