You should know that you cannot suffocate yourself to death.

You can starve the brain of oxygen until you go unconscious but then your body begins to breathe through the pores in the skin. Thats how the Bond villain Goldfinger killed his victims, by painting over their skin when they were unconscious so they couldnt breathe. In the same way you cannot strange yourself to death, you would become unconscious and your hands would go limp and stop the strangulation before it killed you.
