Are they an effective form of advertising? Or are they a constant annoyance to you? Do you have a program that blocks pop-ups and if so, what is it?

Pop-ups are irksome, annoying and are generally a pain in the ass. They're also very ineffective.
I've only had spyware on my PC once during the last year, and it was caused by pop-ups running scripts.
I then changed to Firefox, and everything is great now.
