I've got a list of my DVDs in Excel, and I have alternate lines hilited with a blue background.

I've been doing this manually, but as the list grows it's getting to be a pain - when I insert rows, everything including the backround colour moves and I have to fiddle around with the layout to correct it.

Is there any way I can automate this easily with a function?

You can make umpteen bazillion alternating colour rows by making two, selecting the rows by clicking on their row headers and auto-filling (select both rows, there should be a dark black box in the bottom-left corner of the selection rectangle, click on this and drag downwards). If you want to insert a row, your best bet is to select all the row that will get displaced, Cut them, then use Paste Special to paste them back a row below where they were cut from. If you paste in just the values, it won't muck up your alternating colours.

Format -> Autoformat

I can see one that does grey and white, instead of blue. Don't know if you can change it, but surely it doesn't make too much of a difference...
