Nintendo are releasing the Nintendo Classic Mini: NES on the 11th November.

The retro console is a much smaller version of the much loved console, which comes with 30 inbuilt games. The games include some of the most loved classics, such as Metroid, Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda.

The Classic Mini is actually at a pretty reasonable price too.

I can't help but be a little disappointed that they didn't choose to release a mini SNES - with games like Mario Kart and Mortal Kombat!

So, will it be on your Christmas list?

I am very tempted by one of these but it is a bit pricey for the number of games I'd be interested in playing again.

I can imagine that licencing for NES games is far easier and far less likely to eat into any virtual console profits Nintendo may require from Wii, 3DS and Wii U.

There are already a few third party SNES consoles that use both memory card and original cart slots and some that do multiple machines, like the Retcon 5, which does Nintendo NES, SNES (Super Nintendo), GameBoy Advance (GBA), SEGA Genesis / SEGA Mega Drive, Nintendo Famicom, Super Famicom, Gameboy Colour and Game Boy.

Maybe on my Christmas list, but you're right... should have done a SNES rather than a NES.

Perhaps next year, eh?
