Really feeling sorry for the Aussies in the way of Cyclone Yasi at the moment. The winds and storms have not long hit the coast, but the actual cyclone hasn't even reached mainland yet.

It's the biggest Cyclone in the area since 1918 and looks like it will do a lot of damage, plus bringing flooding to the area after all the problems with floods in Queensland already.

Much of the North East, along the Great Barrier Reef, will be affected, even inland. But the coasts will obviously be hit the worst, with waves already rising to record 9.5m high.

Ugh, it's devastating.

There's some pictures circulating atm with comparisons of how it would look if it were in other parts of the world

Now tearing through the coastal areas, you can follow the Cyclone on Facebook

Wow, everyone has FB these days!

On a serious note, it seems the damage was not as bad as first feared. Early warnings meant many managed to prepare and move from the expected worst hit areas.

With no reported deaths (2 missing however) the Aussies must be breathing a sigh of relief after the devastation of the floods. Although it has been said before, they will do anything to stop us talking about the cricket...

Thank you so much for the link pb! My friend is desperate for information, as some relatives live in Australia. The news doesn't seem to be saying much, so this is greatly appreciated! Great to see so many people trying to help. Take care everyone.
