maybe it's because water still evaporates from the hot water even whilst its in the freezer. Since water at room temperture does not evaporate, no water will be lost therefore, because their is less water in the 'hot water' test, it is able to freeze faster.

It does.

Doesn't seem to make sense but it does cool quicker!

i know what i said sounds stupid, but 2 things:

1)its all about energy transference and stuff
2)phillip... think for a second in order to get from 70c to 0, you have to pass through 20c which is the room temerature water. therefore, no it wouldnt.
